Documentary Filmmaker
His latest film, Okinawa Santos, was released on July 31, 2021.
He made his directorial debut with Flowers and Troops (2009), a documentary following Japanese soldiers who remained in Thailand after World War II.
In 2011, he released Fukushima: Memories of the Lost Landscape, documenting life in Minamisoma after the nuclear disaster.
His 2013 film The Horse of Fukushima was selected for the competition section at Tokyo FILMeX and won the Grand Prix in the AsiaAfrica Documentary section at the Dubai International Film Festival.
In 2016, he was awarded a fellowship from Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs and spent time in São Paulo, Brazil.
He is also the author of Bakuro and other works.
Currently based in Okinawa, Japan.
